Zamaretto League Midlands Division Romulus (2) 2 Bromsgrove Rovers (1) 1 Tuesday 9th March 2010 Attendance: 119
Bromsgrove put in a much improved performance against their higher placed opponents but still slipped to another league defeat Rovers added another two players their debuts Chris Godwin from Daventry Town and James Pugh from Solihull Moors, who marked his debut with Rovers first half equalizer. Romulus scored at the start of the half and at the end of the half with Marcus and Lei Brown scoring the goals. Bromsgrove started brightly with Pugh firing an effort straight at Matthew Sargeant in goal in the 3rd minute but found themselves a goal down two minutes later from an Ashleigh Jackson corner Daniel Douglas headed down to Marcus Brown who stayed onside and slipped the ball past Karl Lewis low to his left. The Green’s were back on level terms in the 14th minute after Nathaniel Caines delightful cross-field ball found Pugh on the right hand side of the area, he controlled the ball on his chest and smashed the ball past Sargeant into the bottom left hand corner. The game ebbed and flowed end to end as both defenses struggled to contain their opponent’s forwards. Rom’s Jackson sliced the ball wide from 12 yards out from Tom Franklin’s through ball after 22 minutes. Nine minutes later Pugh again went close for Rovers when his effort beat Sargeant but also beat his left hand post. Caines was in the right position on the post to clear Franklin’s header off the line; Jackson was first to the rebound but lifted the ball over the crossbar from close range. Rom’s second came a minute before the break a clumsy challenge on Lei Brown by Alex Roofe just inside the area gave the match official Ms Sasa Ihringove no option but to give the penalty. Lei Brown dusted himself down to send Lewis the wrong way to restore the Rom’s advantage. Rovers responded in the second half Caines had a 25 yard effort parried away by Sargeant, Nathaniel Waite followed up the rebound but had strayed into an offside position in the 51st minute. Five minutes later Samuel Wills was presented with a chance after a mistake by Richard Robinson but fired wide of goal. In the 62nd minute Roofe produced a timely tackle on the edge of the area to deny Mykel Beckley as he was about to pull the trigger. Rovers continued to look for an equalizer Pugh set Waite away on goal but the big striker fired a yard wide after 68 minutes. Nine minutes before the end Roofe drove a cross into the area Waite produced a deft touch to divert the ball towards Sargeant’s right hand post but the keeper got down well to save. Romulus saw out the remaining minutes to claim all three points.
