Bury Town claimed all three points from the penalty spot after a harsh award for handball after the ball bounced up onto Gavin Winsper's hand. Ben Coker rattled home the spot kick at The Ram Meadow.
Sam Reed was given a chance in the second minute after latching onto a poor header back by Jemiah Richards but screwed his effort wide of Karl Lewis's left hand post.
Alex Woodhouse’s 4th minute effort from the edge of the area just flew wide of Marcus Garnham’s left hand upright.
Rovers’ keeper Lewis pulled off a superb reflex save to tip Tom Bullard’s point blank header over the crossbar in the 20th minute. Three minutes later Bury’s custodian Marcus Garnham pulled off a good stop low to his right to collect Danny Scheppel’s free-kick. Lewis was having an inspired match in pulling off saves to deny Lee Reed and Gavin Johnson after 25 and 27 minutes respectively
Omar Spence’s shot on the turn in the penalty area was turned around the post by Garnham from Luke Findley’s left wing cross on 29 minutes. A minute later Richards sent in an effort that left Garnham flat footed and was relieved to see the ball just clear the crossbar as Rovers took the game to the home side. In the 32nd minute Woodhouse’s volley from the edge of the area just cleared the crossbar after Roscoe Hipperson failed to get any distance on his clearing header. Lewis came to Rovers rescue again foiling Coker after 44 minutes.
At the start of the second half Rovers, Omar Spence lifted the ball over goalkeeper Garnham, Findley went in to challenge for the loose ball but could not keep his header from clearing the crossbar. Cameron Jones then produced a drive from the right hand side of the area which skidded past the left hand upright in the 55th minute.
Then came the penalty incident, Bury’s Hipperson actually scored from the passage of play but the referee Lee Betts from Norwich pulled play back to award the spot kick in the 61st minute which Coker put away with ease.
Substitute Danny Campbell nipped in between defender Sam Nunn and Garnham as they dithered about who would clear the ball but could not force the ball home from the tight angle after 74 minutes
Lewis pulled off another couple of blinding saves to stop Bury adding to their score towards the end of the game from Michael Steward on 86 minutes and Lee Underwood in the 89th minute but could not stop Bury claiming the points.
