Bromsgrove Rovers were formed in 1885 and the early years saw the club playing their football in the Studley & District League. During these formative years Rovers played on the following grounds; 1885 at Old Station Ground, moving to Market St. Recreation Ground in 1887, a year later it was Churchfields, before in 1897 taking up residence at Well Lane.

The present club headquarters the Victoria Ground became ‘home’ in 1910. On winning runners up spot in the Studley & District League in 1893-94 & the League Cup. Rovers got promotion to the Birmingham League in 1898, becoming runners up in season 1904-05. Bromsgrove at junior level won the Worcestershire Junior Cup in both 1895-96 & 1910-11.

Other early honours included Chatrian Cup winners in 1896-97 and runners up the following season. Moving into the Birmingham Combination League in 1908, where the club stayed until 1965 when it became part of the newly formed West Midlands League. During this period of club history 1908 to 1965 the club won many honours, champions of the Combination on two occasions, 1946-47 & 1959-60, being runners up on four more occasions, 1949-50 & 1950-51, 1956-57 & 1960-61. Winners of the Worcestershire Senior Cup on three occasions, 1946-47, 1947-48, & 1959-60. Runners up four times, 1920-21, 1928-29, 1957-58, & 1960-61. Winning the Herefordshire Charity Challenge Cup in 1946-47, being runners up the following season. The Birmingham Senior Cup was won in 1946-47, again the following season saw Rovers as runners up.Other honours were Tillostson Cup winners in 1939-40 & Towns Cup winners in 1959-60, also during this period of time the club’s record gate of 7,389 was set against Worcester City. The club stayed in the West Midlands League until they joined the Southern League in 1972.

During those seven years the club were still quite successful winning trophies. Camkin Cup Winners in season 1968-69, West Midlands League Cup finalists in 1967-68 & 1970-71, Birmingham League runners up in 1969-70, and Worcestershire Senior Cup finalists in 1968-69. Starting in the Northern Division of the Southern league in 1972-73, until 1979-80 when it was renamed the Midlands Division. Between 1972 and 1980, Rovers were successful in winning the Border Counties Floodlit Cup in 1975-76, the Border Counties Cup in 1974-75, the Hayes Trophy in 1974-75 & 1975-76, Worcestershire Senior Cup finalists in both 1975-76 & 1976-77, and finalists in the Southern League Cup of 1973-74.

Bobby Hope, the most successful manager in the club’s history, was appointed for 1982-83. He stayed until 1988, leaving for a short time before returning for season 1989-90. Rovers remained in the Midlands Division until 1985-86 season. That sixth season saw more honours, winning the Bill Dellow Southern League Cup, the Southern League Merit Cup, the Midland Division Championship and finalists in the Worcestershire Senior Cup. That season was also the club’s centenary. Promoted to the Premier Division in 1986, Rovers stormed towards the title. However, a poor run in saw them miss out having to be content with runners up spot for 1986-87. The club however did win the 1986-87 Worcestershire Senior Cup.

The following season 1987-88 saw them become finalists in the Westgate Insurance Southern League Cup. Season 1988-89 saw Rovers as finalists in both the Worcestershire Senior Cup & the Birmingham Senior Cup. In 1989-90 Rovers were finalists in the Worcestershire Senior Cup. The 1990-91 season saw Bobby Hope starting to rebuild the Rovers and a rare thing happened! Rovers were not to win anything or reach a final.

The 90’s were to start well for the club. 1991-92 saw a welcomed win in the Worcestershire Senior Cup, warning of what was to come. The Southern League title was won the following season, 1991-92, with it promotion to the non-league’s top division - The Vauxhall Conference. That season once again saw the Worcestershire Senior Cup in the trophy cabinet. Rovers took to the Conference like a duck to water, finishing their first season 1992-93 as runners up, establishing a new record for a promoted team, also winning the Bob Mann Cup. Between 1993-94 & 1995-96 Rovers won a hat trick of Worcestershire Senior Cup wins. Won in 1994-95, the Harry Timmins Memorial Cup & the Bob Lord Trophy (Vauxhall Conference League Cup). Setting more records the club became the first team ever to retain the Conference League Cup, played for under its new name Spalding Cup in 1995-96. Season 1996-97 saw Rovers relegated, for the first time in their history.

The club came under new management and ownership Patrick Bannister and Stuart Arnold; this was to have devastating consequences. The following season Rovers escaped another relegation only on a technicality when the ground grading committee failed Chelmsford City‘s application for promotion. In 1998-99 another relegation put Rovers into the Western Division of the Dr. Martens League.

A period of poor management followed, Stuart Arnold left after selling his interest in the club to Patrick Bannister and thus leaving he and his brothers in sole charge.The club got into serious financial difficulties, getting a stay of execution from the law courts to fight on. On the pitch however, things continued on a downward spiral and in 2000-2001 relegation followed this time into the Midland Football Alliance. The club spent a few months in the hands of an administrator, and the long-suffering supporters were relieved to discover that a new purchaser for the club had been found. Tom Herbert purchased the shares from Patrick Bannister with assistance from the Supporters Society, and the club was saved from extinction, but this only happened at the last possible moment.

The 2001-2002 season brought back happier times to the Victoria Ground as Bromsgrove finished runners up to Stourbridge in the Midland Football Alliance, and thus gaining promotion (as Stourbridge’s ground was not up to the required standard for Southern League entry) back to the Dr. Martens League Western Division at the first attempt. After leading the table for most of the 2002-2003 season it looked as though another promotion was on the cards, this time to the Dr.Martens League Premier Division. But unfortunately Rovers finished the season in third place.

2004/5 season Bromsgrove again missed out on promotion, after beating Clevedon Town in the play off semi-finals they lost to Evesham United in the final. In January 2006 Rod Brown became Manager and though they finished 11th in the league they reached the final of the Errea Southern League Cup, beating Evesham United, Kings Lynn, Banbury United and Chippenham Town from the Southern Premier League before losing to Hitchin Town in the Final. They also reached the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, beating Hinckley United and Halesowen Town before losing to Morecambe.

May 2007 finally saw the club promoted to the Southern League Premier League having finished Runners Up and going on to beat Willenhall Town in the Play-off Final
